Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct Statement

Last Revised: September 15, 2023

eCampusOntario (registered as the Online Learning Consortium) is proud of its initiatives and is dedicated to providing a positive experience for all attendees, speakers, exhibitors, volunteers, and staff (“participants”). We expect all participants to show respect and courtesy toward one another at all events, including online activities. To that end, all participants are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the activity or event. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

I acknowledge I am participating in this conference as a speaker, special guest, or delegate for professional development reasons and to share ideas in accordance with the event’s objectives.

I agree that I will not promote or sell any products or services to event attendees and vendors, and accept that any violation of this will result in immediate expulsion from this conference and future eCampusOntario events.

We do not tolerate harassment or violence in any form.

Harassment means engaging in a course of vexatious comment or conduct against a worker in a workplace that is known or ought reasonably to be known to be unwelcome, or workplace sexual harassment, or Workplace Sexual Harassment. In turn, Workplace Sexual Harassment means engaging in a course of vexatious comment or conduct against a worker in a workplace because of sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression where the course of comment or conduct is known or ought reasonably to be known to be unwelcome, or making a sexual solicitation or advance where the person making the solicitation or advance is in a position to confer, grant or deny a benefit or advancement to the worker and the person knows or ought reasonably to know that the solicitation or advance is unwelcome.

Workplace Harassment also includes the creation of an environment that is hostile or unwelcoming because of insulting or degrading comments or actions made on the basis of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, record of offences, marital status, family status, disability, or any other protected ground of discrimination. This can include sexual or discriminatory images in public spaces (including online), deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

While Workplace Harassment is usually based on an ongoing pattern of conduct, a single incidence of serious conduct may constitute Workplace Harassment if it causes injury and produces a continued harmful effect for the affected individual. Workplace Harassment can occur even when a comment is not directed at a specific person, if it takes the form of offensive remarks that demean, belittle, or cause humiliation or embarrassment.

Workplace Violence means the exercise of physical force by a person against a worker, in a workplace, that causes or could cause physical injury to the worker;  an attempt to exercise physical force against a worker, in a workplace, that could cause physical injury to the worker; or a statement or behaviour that it is reasonable for a worker to interpret as a threat to exercise physical force against the worker, in a workplace, that could cause physical injury to the worker.

If Workplace Violence occurs or appears likely to occur, you are encouraged to act immediately and summon assistance. Where there is an incident of or imminent risk of Workplace Violence, you should retreat to a safe location, and CALL 911 immediately. When the emergency situation is under control, the particulars of the event will be recorded by an OOLC supervisor or manager, who will in turn notify senior personnel to assess the situation and determine the measures necessary to address the Workplace Violence or threat of violence.

We do not tolerate harassment or violence in any form at any time, including events, outside activities, and conferences associated with eCampusOntario. If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, the activity or event organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund.

It is the policy of eCampusOntario to address incidents of harassment, violence, and discrimination with seriousness and sensitivity. eCampusOntario encourages the reporting of all incidents of harassment, violence, and discrimination, regardless of who the offender may be.

If at any time you feel that you have been harassed or injured or that this code of conduct has been breached, please report it to eCampusOntario staff. Staff will be happy to help participants contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment, violence, or discrimination to feel safe for the duration of the activity or event. We value your attendance.
