2016-2018 Online Program Development

At eCampusOntario, growing Ontario’s public post-secondary online learning is one of our most important objectives. To that end, eCampusOntario has issued an online program development fund Request for Proposals (RFP) to all of Ontario’s public post-secondary institutions.

Through collaboration and partnership, exceptional for-credit online learning programs will be created that give students access to more education, leading to complete degrees, diplomas and certificates.

 

TITLE: Collaborative Online Post-Graduate Inter-professional Certificate in Complex and Long-Term Care

PARTNERS: Lead Institution George Brown College; Ryerson University

GRANT: $226,430.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Proposed Certificate Program will:

1. Focus on preparing post-graduate healthcare providers to work inter-professionally with clients and families who require complex and long-term care within institutions or in the home

2. Build capacity and human resources in smaller rural and remote communities for clients with extensive health care requirements

3. Involve interdisciplinary collaboration among two academic institutions (college and university) and one healthcare service organization.

 

TITLE: Post-Secondary Educational Studies

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Brock University; Niagara College

GRANT: $330,000.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Building on the success of Brock University's three year, Bachelor's degree in Adult Education, this program will:

1. Provide learners with the opportunity to pursue a specialized examination of postsecondary education

2. Allow students to obtain an honours degree in Adult Education with a specialization in postsecondary Educational Studies or a Certificate in Post-Secondary Educational Studies.

 

TITLE: Data Analysis for Business Analytics

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Durham College; Algonquin College; Lambton College

GRANT: $697,862.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Three colleges will develop an Ontario College Graduate Certificate program in a high-demand area of Data Analysis for Business Analytics – will develop all twelve courses within the multi-year timeframe.

The Data Analysis for Business Analytics program will be:

1. Offered in a part-time format, and fully online with asynchronous delivery

2. An opportunity for students to complete the entire certificate in their local community with no geographic barriers

3. Delivered through the OntarioLearn consortium - program will be available not only to the collaborating colleges, but to all 24 colleges in Ontario.

 

TITLE: Instructional Design Certificate

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Seneca College; La Cite College; Seneca College; St. Lawrence College

GRANT: $771,350.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

This strategic partnership between Seneca, St. Lawrence, and La Cité will be:

1. A new certificate program in instructional design for online delivery in both English and French

2. Comprised of 8 courses and provide foundational skills and interdisciplinary knowledge in instructional design

3. Focussed on developing educational materials for online environments.

 

TITLE: Master of Environmental Monitoring and Assessment (MEMA)

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Trent University; University of Toronto

GRANT: $542,500.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Currently, there is a shortage of post-graduate professional programming for students seeking advanced training in the environmental sciences.

This is especially true for online programs, even though online course delivery is proven to be effective and flexible - especially for individuals who otherwise lack direct access to traditional courses. 

Proposed Masters of Environmental Monitoring and Assessment (MEMA) and the Diploma (DEMA) programs at Trent University, will help redress this important deficiency. 

 

TITLE: Applied Research and Analysis: Healthy Public Policy

PARTNERS: Conestoga College; Wilfrid Laurier University

GRANT: $223,840.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

This multi-year project will:

1. Leverage the interdisciplinary expertise of Wilfrid Laurier University’s Centre for Community Research Learning and Action (CCRLA) and its Institute for the Study of Public Opinion and Policy (LISPOP) as well as Conestoga College’s Centre of Innovation and Excellence in Advancing Healthy Communities

2. Create a six-course program resulting in a College Certificate that is new to the Ontario College and University system

3. Provide a unique focus on shared responsibility for supporting substantive research analysis for healthy public policy.

 

TITLE: Doctor of Science - Rehabilitation and Health Leadership

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Queen's University

GRANT: $182,594.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Project will work to develop the new Doctor of Science in Rehabilitation and Health Leadership (DSc RHL) plus 4 courses within this program.

The DSc (RHL) is a professional doctorate that will produce ‘leader scholars’.

 

TITLE: Small Business Management - Trades

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Algonquin College; Canadore College; S.S. Fleming College; Lambton College; St. Lawrence College

GRANT: $369,200.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Program is a fully online Ontario College Diploma program providing tradespersons who possess their Certificate of Qualification within their trade with opportunity to develop the skills necessary to plan and manage a business.

 

TITLE: Interior Decorating, Ontario College Certificate

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Conestoga College; Lambton College; Seneca College; Sheridan College

GRANT: $559,396.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Interior Decorating Ontario College Certificate is comprised of twelve courses. Introduction to Interior Decorating course was funded through the Shared Online Course Fund (SOCF) in 2015 and the Colour Theory course was redesigned by Sheridan College in 2016.

With support from eCampusOntario, funding for the remaining ten courses will be delivered to launch the first fully online Interior Decorating Ontario College Certificate by March 2018.

 

TITLE: Queen's Entrepreneurship and Innovation Certificate (QEIC)

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Queen's University

GRANT: $363,835.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Project is to develop a new fully online certificate program in innovation and entrepreneurship to be launched in Fall 2018.

This will be a uniquely collaborative academic initiative that brings together participants from 9 Queen’s Faculties, Schools, Departments and service units to develop, design and deliver the program.

 

TITLE: Early Childhood Education – Resource Consulting Ontario College Graduate Certificate

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Seneca College; Conestoga College

GRANT: $273,460.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Multi-year strategic partnership between Seneca and Conestoga College that will:

1. Culminate in a new, fully online program

2. Offer an Early Childhood Education – Resource Consulting, Ontario College Graduate Certificate that reflects new, provincially mandated Ministry standards

3. Integrate significantly updated Program and Course Learning Outcomes

Graduate certificate is comprised of seven courses – two of which have been developed by Seneca College through previous eCampusOntario funding.

Program provides advanced skills and interdisciplinary knowledge applicable to many environments in Early Childhood Education – Resource Consulting sector.

 

TITLE: Graduate Diploma in Climate Risk Management

PARTNERS: Lead Institution University of Waterloo; Wilfrid Laurier University

GRANT: $330,000.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Graduate Diploma in Climate Risk Management (GDip CRM) will:

1. Be designed as a fully online, Type 3 stand-alone direct-entry diploma

2. Meet the needs of early to mid-career professionals tasked with climate change risk management and adaptation as part of their regular professional duties

3. Consist of four courses which can be completed in as little as one year

4. Have the distinction of being the only university level graduate diploma program of its kind in Canada.

 

TITLE: Addictions and Mental Health - Ontario College Graduate Certificate

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Humber College; Algonquin College; St. Lawrence College

GRANT: $538,114.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Primary focus of this project will be to:

1. Convert the current face-to-face ADMH certificate into a fully online, fully accessible, flexible learning experience

2. Work in partnership with St. Lawrence College and Algonquin College

3. Use cutting edge technologies, recent content and engaging differentiated learning activities to train students for the front-lines of delivering effective addictions and mental health services.

 

TITLE: Title: Trent University Diploma Circumpolar Studies Specialization

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Trent University

GRANT: $176,000.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

The purpose of this innovative project will be to:

1. Redevelop existing Trent courses and offer new packaging and delivery options for University of the Arctic curriculum for Ontario’s post-secondary institutions

2. Deliver a fully-online, five full-credit Diploma in Circumpolar Studies

Online Diploma may be used as the foundation for a study abroad semester with the University of the Arctic, and as a supplementary certificate for post-secondary students studying in programs such as Environmental Studies, Indigenous Studies, Canadian Studies, Anthropology, or Political Studies, History and Geography.

 

TITLE: Master of Earth and Energy Resources Leadership

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Queen's University

GRANT: $151,317.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Project will develop 3 courses for the new online Master of Earth and Energy Resources Leadership (MEERL) to be launched in January 2017.

MEERL is a part-time, course-based, graduate program introduced by the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering at Queen’s that:

1. Capitalizes on Queen’s widely recognized strengths in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Law, the Smith School of Business, the School of Policy Studies and the Department of Economics

2. Works with industry to deliver courses that take an interdisciplinary approach focused on resource-related decision-making

3. Can be leveraged by those working in natural resources, policy, and regulation.

 

TITLE: A Collaborative Online Bridging Program from Computer Engineering Technician Diploma Programs to a Bachelor of Computer Science

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Northern College; Durham College; Algoma University

GRANT: $307,735.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Program will create a fully online Computer Science bridging program for students to ladder from Computer Engineering Technician diploma programs at Ontario Colleges to a Bachelor of Computer Science degree program.

Currently there is no fully online mechanism for learners to move between the College and University seamlessly in this sector.

 

TITLE: Online Course Based Masters of Science in Physics program

PARTNERS: Lead Institution University of Windsor; Trent University; York University

GRANT: $322,537.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Project will convert an existing, traditional on campus course-based Masters of Science in Physics at the University of Windsor into an online program leading to a M.Sc. degree in 16 months.

Three institutional partners will create a pool of online courses under an articulation agreement called ‘Ontario Physics Education Network’ (OPEN).

Agreements will be set up for credit transfers between institutions, allowing for completion of the online course-based Masters.

 

TITLE: Family and Community Social Services Degree Completion BASc Program

PARTNERS: Lead Institution University of Guelph

GRANT: $349,525.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Project will convert the existing Family and Community Social Services Degree Completion Bachelor of Applied Science program to a fully online format.

The University of Guelph will lead the project and build on the successful, longstanding collaboration between University of Guelph, University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.

 

TITLE: Certificate in Employment Relations (CEMPR)

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Queen's University

GRANT: $262,956.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Project will redesign a certificate program in employment relations for fully online delivery, to be launched in Summer 2018.

Project brings together two universities and participants from several Queen’s Faculties, Schools, Departments and Programs to develop, design and deliver the program.

 

TITLE: Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (Trades Management)

PARTNERS: Lead Institution: Mohawk College; Algonquin College; George Brown College

GRANT: $697,700.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Honours Bachelor of Business Administration (Trades Management) will be a new, fully online, four-year degree that:

1. Augments skills developed through apprentice/journeyperson training

2. Brings focus to competencies currently in demand and required by tradespersons who want to take on greater responsibilities

3. Supports those pursuing management in medium to large organizations.

 

TITLE: The Master of Arts in Public Safety

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Wilfrid Laurier University

GRANT: $806,400.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Program will be designed with an innovative approach to online pedagogy, student service, and technology - MA in Public Safety will be offered exclusively and fully online with the working adult student in mind.

A constructivist learning approach will allow adult learners to:

1. Build on what they already know

2. Enjoy latitude to pursue individual interests

3. Leverage the support of an online community of learners

4. Access content that is both relevant and designed to engage!

 

TITLE: Fitness and Health Promotion Diploma

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Seneca College; Algonquin College; Conestoga College; Lambton College

GRANT: $667,895.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Strategic partnership between Seneca, Algonquin, Lambton and Conestoga Colleges will result in the development of a fully online Fitness and Health Promotion (FHP) Ontario College Diploma.

The new Diploma will be:

1. Comprised of 23 courses, six of which have been developed in an online format (funded through previous eCampusOntario funding)

2. An excellent compilation of foundational skills and interdisciplinary knowledge applicable to Fitness and Health Promotion in many environments - child, youth and adult fitness environments, senior centres

3. Offered through OntarioLearn

 

TITLE: Diploma in Public Policy and Program Evaluation

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Carleton University

GRANT: $90,160.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Project converts the existing program - Diploma in Public Policy and Program Evaluation (DPE) - to a fully online delivery format.

New program will provide a flexible option for professionals to upgrade their knowledge and skills who, given the distances and their busy schedules, would not otherwise be able to attend on-campus executive education.

 

TITLE: Advanced Correctional Practice for Complex Populations Ontario College Graduate Certificate

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Conestoga College; College Boréal

GRANT: $547,180.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Today’s complex offender populations include those who could be characterized by at least one of the following descriptors:

1. Transgendered

2. Two-spirited

3. Experiencing mental health issues or ill

4. Impacted by trauma

5. Having substance abuse issues

6. Female, youth, Indigenous, person of colour

7. Having addictions or of senior age

As our federal and provincial offender populations, have become more complex, the need for more targeted workforce capacity has grown, both for those who desire to enter the corrections services workforce, as well as those employed as correctional officers, community corrections workers, and parole officers.

Goal of this project is to create an Ontario College Graduate Certificate in both English and French focused specifically on strategies for working with complex offender populations.

 

TITLE: Global Action and Engagement Certificate (GAEC)

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Queen's University; University of Ottawa

GRANT: $212,517.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Project will develop a new, fully online undergraduate Global Action and Engagement Certificate (GAEC), and three core courses, to launch in Fall 2018.

The fully online delivery model will make this innovative program:

1. Accessible to learners across Ontario and Canada

2. An ideal way to earn a recognized credential that demonstrates cross-cultural competencies, intellectual creativity, collaborative problem solving skills

3. The standard for proficiencies to work/volunteer in complex global settings.

 

TITLE: Certificate in Advanced Research Skills

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Queen's University

GRANT: $187,298.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Project will develop a new, fully online certificate program in advanced research skills, to be launched in Fall 2017. The fully online delivery model will make this innovative program accessible to learners from all disciplines in Ontario and across Canada.

To our knowledge, it is the first interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary research skills certificate. This ground breaking course will:

1. Recognize the ability of the learner to construct her or his own learning

2. Create opportunities for self-directed learning

3. Be aligned with the pedagogical approach of inquiry-based learning.

 

TITLE: Professional Masters in Space Studies

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Western University

GRANT: $309,429.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Centre for Planetary Science and Exploration at Western University will develop a new online Professional Masters in Space Studies. Project builds upon the rapid expansion of the commercial space sector, and the excitement surrounding space exploration internationally.

This would be the first professional degree in Canada to:

1. Bring an interdisciplinary approach to space studies

2. Provide an avenue for continued study for those who intend to seek a career in the growing Space industry, rather than in academia.

 

TITLE: eLearning Developer

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Durham College; La Cite College; Seneca College; St. Lawrence College

GRANT: $655,771.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

eLearning Developer program will respond to a growing demand for expertise, both technological and pedagogical, in the creation of online programming. As the field of online education continues to grow and mature, this certificate meets both the current and future labour market demand.

Educators, trainers, designers, and administrators will benefit from completing this program - it will appeal to both the traditional educator, and anyone in business/industry who creates online materials.

 

TITLE: Diploma in Materials Chemistry and Nanoscience

PARTNERS: Lead Institution University of Windsor; Western University

GRANT: $500,845.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Diploma in Materials Chemistry and Nanoscience is a new online undergraduate program proposed at the University of Windsor as a collaboration between the Faculty of Science (Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry) and the Faculty of Engineering (Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering).

This exciting new program will be:

1. Part of a significant expansion in materials chemistry at the University including the upcoming launch of undergraduate stream in Materials Chemistry

2. Compliment the development of a new Masters of Engineering Materials and Chemistry in conjunction with MAME over the next two years.

 

TITLE: Graduate Diploma in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Western University; University of Ottawa; University of Windsor

GRANT: $802,120.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Faculty of Health Sciences at Western University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa, and the Faculties of Human Kinetics and Nursing at the University of Windsor, will develop a new, fully online Graduate Diploma in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

Project will involve both the design of the new program and the development of thirteen courses. The initiative will focus initially on:

1.  Professional learners who are employed in the health sector

2. Graduates of health-sciences post-secondary education (PSE) programs who are seeking additional PSE.

 

TITLE: Graduate Certificate in Industrial and Organizational Psychology

PARTNERS: Lead Institution University of Windsor;

GRANT: $247,273.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Graduate Certificate in Industrial and Organisational Psychology is a new online program proposed at the University of Windsor to provide advanced knowledge in the field of industrial and organisation psychology, particularly for Canadian Human Resource Professionals.

Program is designed to provide students who have a degree, or who are working as HR professionals, with specialist knowledge from a psychological perspective.

 

TITLE: Office Administration - Legal

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Loyalist College; Algonquin College; Northern College

GRANT: $709,410.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Loyalist College, in collaboration with Algonquin College and Northern College, will develop the first fully online Office Administration - Legal Ontario College diploma. The fully online program is designed for students who wish to pursue this field of study, however are unable to study full time or in class.

 

TITLE: Nephrology Nursing, College Certificate

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Conestoga College; Durham College; Mohawk College

GRANT: $409,456.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Nephrology Nursing Certificate is comprised of seven courses - graduates will be well prepared to write the Canadian Nurses Association’s specialty certification exam in nephrology nursing.

Conestoga’s existing collaboration with the Waterloo Wellington Integrated Renal Program will ensure that graduating students are prepared to be workforce ready in the field of nephrology nursing.

 

TITLE: Early Childhood Studies Degree Completion BASc Program

PARTNERS: Lead Institution University of Guelph; Humber College

GRANT: $264,839.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Project seeks to convert the existing Early Childhood Studies Degree Completion Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) program, to a fully online format.

The University of Guelph will lead the project and build on the successful, longstanding collaboration between University of Guelph, University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.

 

TITLE: Online Computer Science Pathway Initiative

PARTNERS: Lead Institution University of Windsor; St. Clair College

GRANT: $631,297.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

Online Computer Science Pathway Initiative is a new approach to an articulation/degree completion pathway leveraging existing working relationships and pathways between the University of Windsor and St Clair College.

Program will offer a flexible, studentā€focused, efficient pathway for learners to gain multiple credentials that will enhance their employability.

 

TITLE: French for Professionals Certificate

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Queen's University; University of Ottawa

GRANT: $214,047.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

Project is to develop a new fully online undergraduate certificate in French for Professionals to be launched in Fall 2018.

In Canada, new graduates, professionals and other job-seekers who can communicate effectively in French as a Second Language (FSL) are more likely to be successfully employed in bilingual workplaces (Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, 2016).

Goal of this new certificate program is to enable learners of French as a Second Language to develop and enhance language skills to work in bilingual professional environments such as health care, government, law and other industries.

 

TITLE: Management of Childcare Services

PARTNERS: Collége La Cité; College Boréal

GRANT: $214,072.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery 

La Cité (two sectors), in partnership with Collège Boréal, wishes to finalize putting online the post-graduate certificate in Management of Childcare Services launched during the two preceding rounds of financing for the Shared Online Course Fund. 

La Cité and Collège Boréal have already put 360 hours online out of the 555 hours of this post-graduate course.

 

TITLE: Certificate in English-French Translation

PARTNERS: Lead Institution University of Ottawa; Ryerson University

GRANT: $100,000.00

PROJECT: New Program Design + Course

The Certificate in Translation initiates the student to professional translation of English into French. This program aims to give Francophones a strong university education for which the written language is indispensable to their profession; it also aims to provide a methodological and practical initiation to those who wish to become professional specialists in translation from English to French.

 

TITLE: Project Management

PARTNERS: Lead Institution Collége La Cité; College Boréal

GRANT: $458,045.00

PROJECT: Existing Program to Online Delivery

La Cité (three sectors), in partnership with Collège Boréal, wishes to develop a new program in Project Management.

The two colleges take pride in developing an entirely online and local certificate, including courses which can be funded by the Ministry of Higher Education and Vocational Training. The certificate will consist of a common core and three specializations, being Construction, IT and Event Project Management.
