Cambrian Open Days: Colleagues and Conversations

Cambrian’s Open Day took place on May 31st and featured a variety of talks and workshops from presenters. Conference organizers and OE Fellows Jessica O’Reilly and Laura Killam led the day and presented alongside Program Managers Jenni Hayman and Joanne Kehoe.

The day’s activities sparked great conversations around the practice and power of open education, and included guest Zoom appearances from Cable Green, Director of Open Education, Creative Commons and Helen DeWaard, yet another dynamic eCampusOntario OE Fellow, and open educator at Lakehead University.

Sessions were threaded with personal perceptions and stories of open, why it matters and common challenges and opportunities around adoption, adaptation and creation of OER. A total of 166 participants took part and one particular standout comment shared by an educator at the end of the day was, “I have to stop thinking of it as my course and my students. I need to think of it as our courses and our students.” Fairly formidable stuff!

You can check out the day’s agenda, pre and post-conference activities, links to presentations and the keynote recording on Cambrian’s Open Day website. A first-hand reflection can be found on a blog post by Laura Killam. eCampusOntario would like to thank the Open Days’ organizing committee, including those mentioned above as well as Mel Young, Marnie Seal and Sarah Wendorf for the invite as well as their passion and commitment to open advocacy at Cambrian.
